Ski-In Ski-Out Hotels at Aspen Snowmass

Aspen is four separate mountains, and only one of them was built with lodging on its runs. Ski-in ski-out at Aspen Snowmass means Snowmass Village in almost every case — so we checked every claim in both directions, including the two neighbours who each say they are the only one.

The short version

  • Seven properties pass the strict test and six of them are in Snowmass Village: Viceroy and Limelight in Base Village, Mountain Chalet and Stonebridge Condominiums on Fanny Hill, Top of the Village up Carriage Way, and Inn at Aspen over on Buttermilk.
  • The town of Aspen is a town beside a gondola, not a slopeside base. The Little Nell is the real exception, with the Silver Queen Gondola at the door — but Aspen Mountain has no green runs, so that access is worth nothing to a first-timer.
  • Two neighbours, one claim. Viceroy Snowmass advertises itself as 'the only ski-in, ski-out luxury resort in Snowmass' a few hundred feet from Limelight Snowmass, which sells ski-in/ski-out access from the same Elk Camp Gondola.
  • Read the room type, not the headline. Viewline Resort Snowmass — the rebranded Westin — sells 'ski-in/ski-out suites directly off iconic Fanny Hill'. Book a standard room and you walk to the same snow.
  • Beginners are fine at Snowmass and only at Snowmass: Fanny Hill and Assay Hill are both green and both finish at lodging. Aspen Mountain is intermediate and up, and Buttermilk is the other beginner mountain with exactly one hotel at its base.
  • In our 20–23 January price check the cheapest verified slopeside rate was $809 at Viceroy, against $335 down-valley in Basalt. Aspen does not do cheap slopeside.

  • Its own site calls it 'the only ski-in, ski-out luxury resort in Snowmass'. Limelight Snowmass sells the same access from the same gondola a few hundred feet away, so one of those claims has to give.
  • aspensnowmass.com's own lodging listing puts it on Assay Hill, which is the green that finishes in Base Village — the reason this address works for a mixed-ability group.
  • $809 in our January price check, and the cheapest published rate on any address we could verify as genuinely ski-on. Studios to four-bedroom suites, all with kitchens and gas fireplaces.

  • The single reason the Aspen-versus-Snowmass confusion exists. This is the one hotel in the town of Aspen where the phrase is literal: gondola at the door, ski-in deck at Ajax Tavern, full ski concierge with boot warming, tuning and storage.
  • The catch is the terrain, not the distance. Aspen Mountain has no green runs, so a beginner staying here rides the bus to Snowmass or Buttermilk every morning and the access is worth nothing to them.
  • 4.7/5 from 625 Google reviews. The resort fee covers airport, in-town and ski shuttle transfers; no nightly rate was published for our January dates.

We have not stayed at these properties. Every claim above was checked in August 2026 against the property's own website, its operator's wording and aspensnowmass.com's lodging pages, and where those contradicted each other we said so rather than picking the flattering one. Buildings that appear on ski-in/ski-out lists but that we could not verify in both directions — Laurelwood, Timberline, Pokolodi, Shadowbrook, Electric Pass Lodge, Havens — are deliberately not cards here.

Sky Cab (Skittles) — the free pulse gondola linking Snowmass Base Village and the Village Mall, so a Fanny Hill address still reaches the Elk Camp side. Aspen Skiing Company and the town have agreed to replace it with a faster detachable gondola; the construction timing has not been confirmed.

Ikon Base, new for 2026/27

Aspen Snowmass joins the Ikon Base Pass with five days at Snowmass alone — Aspen Mountain, Highlands and Buttermilk are not included, and Snowmass is blacked out 26-30 December 2026, 16-17 January and 13-14 February 2027. The full Ikon Pass gives seven days across all four mountains with no blackouts, at $1,399 for 2026/27.

Among the priciest in North America. The resort's own advance and shoulder promotion runs from $98, while a same-day adult ticket in the 21 December to 5 January holiday window was $264 in 2025/26. The equivalent 2026/27 peak rate had not been published when we checked.

The Snowmass Base Village garage charges a free first hour then $9 an hour to a $63 daily maximum, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Day-skier parking at Town Park, opposite the Recreation Center, is free with a Village Shuttle ride to the mountain.

You cannot ski between the four mountains. RFTA runs free service inside Aspen and free service between Snowmass Village and downtown, plus a winter Four Mountain Connector, which is what makes a non-slopeside base workable here.

Condos: the rest of the slopeside beds in Snowmass Village

Snowmass Village was laid out on the slope, so most of the genuinely ski-on beds are condo buildings booked through rental managers rather than hotels with a front desk. They buy kitchen space and, in a couple of cases, a better ski-back than any hotel here has.

Stonebridge Condominiums has a card of its own above because its access is the cleanest in the village. These four are the next tier, and the split between the Fanny Hill and Assay Hill sides matters more than the building does.

Ski-in ski-out at Aspen Snowmass means Snowmass Village

Aspen is not one mountain. It is four — Snowmass, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk — none of them connected to another by a lift or a run, sharing one ticket and one free bus network. That single fact settles the lodging question before any hotel is compared.

Snowmass is the only one of the four with lodging built onto its runs. Snowmass Village is a purpose-built resort village laid out on the hill, and it holds essentially all the genuine slopeside beds in the valley, split across two sides: the newer Base Village at the foot of green Assay Hill, and the older Snowmass Village Mall at the foot of green Fanny Hill.

The town of Aspen is a real 19th-century town that happens to have a gondola at one end of it. Hotels there are near a lift, not on a slope. The Little Nell is the genuine exception — the Silver Queen Gondola at the door, a ski-in deck at Ajax Tavern, a full ski concierge — and it is the reason the whole confusion exists.

Even that exception has a limit that no listing mentions. Aspen Mountain has no green terrain at all; ski media put it at 0% beginner. Everything funnels home through Spar Gulch, which is intermediate and up. A beginner booked at the best ski-in/ski-out hotel in the town of Aspen will spend every morning on a bus to Snowmass or Buttermilk.

The ski-in ski-out claims that do not survive a check

Four corrections are worth more than any ranking on this page, because each one changes what you are actually buying.

Viewline sells a room category, not a hotel. Its own site offers 'ski-in/ski-out suites directly off iconic Fanny Hill'. Suites. A standard room at the same property means walking to the same snow, which is why we file it separately from the true ski-on group. The same building is also the former Westin Snowmass Resort, reopened in January 2022 under the Autograph Collection — OTAs still carry Westin URLs and ids, and it is one hotel, not two.

Two neighbours cannot both be the only one. Viceroy Snowmass prints 'the only ski-in, ski-out luxury resort in Snowmass' while Limelight Snowmass, a few hundred feet away, sells 'ski-in/ski-out access from Elk Camp Gondola'. Both are genuinely on Assay Hill. Neither is the only one.

The most honest phrasing in the village belongs to East West. Its Base Village buildings — Capitol Peak Lodge, Hayden Lodge, Lumin, One Snowmass — are marketed as 'ski-in, walk-out'. Units back onto the Assay Hill slope, and leaving means walking to a lift. Two words, and they describe the situation better than anything else printed here.

Stonebridge is two different buildings. The Stonebridge Condominiums at 30 Anderson Lane sit next to the Village Express lift at the base of Fanny Hill, which is the cleanest access on this page. The Stonebridge Inn at 300 Carriage Way is a separate hotel that never claims ski-in/ski-out on its own site — it says 'prime proximity to the lifts' and runs a shuttle instead.

Getting between four mountains without a car

The free bus is the connective tissue of this valley, and it genuinely is free. RFTA runs free service inside Aspen, free service between Snowmass Village and Rubey Park downtown, and a winter-only Four Mountain Connector linking Aspen Mountain, Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass. The Village Shuttle circulates inside Snowmass Village itself.

That is why a walk verdict, or even a shuttle verdict, costs you less at Aspen Snowmass than it would at most resorts. It also means the calculation for a mixed group is different here: one person skiing Ajax and another learning at Buttermilk are on the same bus network, from any base.

Which Aspen Snowmass hotels are truly ski-in ski-out?
Seven on our reading: Viceroy Snowmass, Limelight Snowmass, Mountain Chalet Snowmass, Stonebridge Condominiums and Top of the Village in Snowmass Village, Inn at Aspen at the Buttermilk base, and The Little Nell in the town of Aspen. Stonebridge Condominiums has the strongest wording of the lot: next to the Village Express lift at the base of Fanny Hill.
Is ski-in ski-out in Aspen actually in Snowmass?
Almost always, yes. Aspen is four unconnected mountains, and only Snowmass has a village laid out on its runs. Search 'Aspen ski-in ski-out' and the hotels that answer it are in Snowmass Village. The exception is The Little Nell, which sits at the base of the Silver Queen Gondola in the town of Aspen with its own ski-in deck at Ajax Tavern. The St. Regis and Limelight Hotel Aspen are a few minutes' town walk from that same gondola, which is a different claim.
Can a beginner ski back to the hotel at Aspen Snowmass?
At Snowmass, yes. Fanny Hill is a wide green pitch that funnels straight into the Mall, and Assay Hill is a second green with its own chairlift finishing in Base Village — so Stonebridge Condominiums or Viceroy both put a first-timer on a green run to the door. At Aspen Mountain, no: it has no green terrain at all, and everything comes home through Spar Gulch. Buttermilk is the other beginner mountain, with Panda Peak for true first-timers.

A standard room means a walk to the same snow, so we file it as ski-in with a different way out. How much do ski-in ski-out hotels at Aspen Snowmass cost?
In our 20–23 January price check the cheapest verified slopeside rate was $809 at Viceroy Snowmass, with Limelight at $1,221 and Top of the Village at $2,360. Viewline was $543 on the hill, and $335 got you a room in Basalt, 18 miles down-valley. Several of the condo buildings publish no nightly rate at all for January dates.
