Which Crested Butte lodging is truly ski-in ski-out?

For 2026/27, one bookable address: WestWall Lodge, where the West Wall lift is outside the building. Elevation Hotel & Spa is the base village's only other true slopeside property and it is closed all season. Beyond hotel stock, the condominium buildings San Moritz, Axtel and the bottom-level units at Buttes have genuine slope access, but they are booked through rental managers and never appear in hotel data, so they have no card or rate here.

Is Elevation Hotel & Spa open for the 2026/27 season?

No. The Crested Butte News reported in March 2026 that the building closes on 1 September 2026 to begin major interior work and will remain closed through winter 26/27 and summer 2027, reopening in autumn 2027 as The Beckwith with about 114 hotel rooms and 49 for-sale residences. OTA pages had not caught up during our check — four of them were still quoting January rooms. No reopening date is confirmed, so treat 2027/28 as unknown and re-check before booking. Full card here.

When does the West Wall lift run at Crested Butte?

Nobody publishes it. The lift is a 2005 fixed-grip quad, 531 m long with 464 ft of vertical and a four-minute ride, and the local hotel guide qualifies its lodging as 'WestWall Lodge (when WestWall Lift is running)' — a hedge that only exists because the answer is not daily. It matters because that one chair is the entire basis of ski-in ski-out for WestWall Lodge and the San Moritz condos. Ask the lodge for the lift's schedule on your dates before you pay a slopeside rate.

Should you stay in Mt. Crested Butte or the town of Crested Butte?

Mt. Crested Butte if the skiing is the point: every lift, all the slopeside stock and the base parking are there, and Warming House Hill delivers you back to it. The historic town three miles down the valley has Elk Avenue and the Nordic Center and no ski access at all — but the free Mountain Express runs every 15 minutes from 7:10 a.m. to midnight, so it is a real option rather than a penalty. It is not, however, the cheap option: Elk Mountain Lodge at $239 was well above Grand Lodge Crested Butte at $173 in the base village.

Can a beginner ski back to the base area at Crested Butte?

Yes. Take Houston off the Red Lady Express — the tourism board's beginner guide calls it groomed and the easiest way to the base area — and it funnels into Warming House Hill, which ends at the base village. High Tide off the little Peachtree lift does the same from the base itself. The rule to learn on day one is the Painter Boy pod: its runs are the gentlest on the mountain and they all funnel back to the bottom of the Painter Boy lift, not to the village. Splain's Gulch is the one exception, and only if you hang right at the bottom.

Is The Lodge at Mountaineer Square really ski-in ski-out?

It is filed here as a walk. Vail markets it as 'ski-in ski-out lodging in the heart of the Crested Butte Mountain Resort base area', while Google's own description of the same building says a 4-minute walk from the ski lifts, the harvested amenities advertise a free ski lift shuttle, and an independent classifier lists it under walking distance. What it has is slopeside ski valet — the valet is on the snow, the building is not. Full verdict here.

How much does ski-in ski-out lodging at Crested Butte cost?

For 20–23 January 2027, two adults: no rate came back for WestWall Lodge at all, which is its own answer. Among the base-village walkers, Grand Lodge Crested Butte was $173, The Lodge at Mountaineer Square $292 and The Plaza $340. Down in the historic town, Old Town Inn was $176 and Elk Mountain Lodge $239.

Which Epic Pass do you need for Crested Butte?

Epic Local is enough, and that is the opposite of the answer at Beaver Creek. Crested Butte is one of the Epic Local unlimited resorts: $809 adult for 2026/27, or $649 with the under-30 discount, giving unlimited days except on four restricted blocks — 27–28 November, 26–31 December, 16 January and 13–14 February — when passholders can buy half-price tickets. The full Epic Pass removes the blackouts. For four days or more here, the pass beats day tickets; no 2026/27 window rate has been published.

Crested Butte Ski-In Ski-Out Lodging: Only 1 for 26/27

For the 2026/27 season this is the only address in the harvest you can book and ski out of. Forty-four units from one to four bedrooms at 14 Hunter Hill Rd, 'located directly at the base of Mt. Crested Butte' in its own wording, with a ski valet that sets skis out in the morning and puts them away at night, plus heated underground parking.
The condition is a single lift. The West Wall is a short 2005 fixed-grip quad — a four-minute ride, 464 vertical feet — and a local guide's own FAQ hedges the lodge with 'when WestWall Lift is running'. Nobody publishes when that is, so ask the lodge for the lift's schedule for your dates before you pay a slopeside rate.
No rate came back in our January price check, and no OTA row appeared in the harvest either. Google shows 4.7 from 32 reviews, the thinnest sample on the page, with service and location the only topics with any volume.

The single most decision-changing fact on this page: the only harvested property carrying a ski-in/ski-out claim in its own data, and the one every third-party source calls 'the only slopeside hotel at the base of Crested Butte Mountain', cannot be booked for the season this page covers.
The rebrand is the reason. Roughly 114 hotel rooms remain after 49 are converted to for-sale residences, and the building comes back as The Beckwith. No reopening date is confirmed — the stated goal is autumn 2027 — so treat 2027/28 as unknown rather than certain.
$167 showed in our January price check, and Expedia, Hotels.com, Priceline and Booking.com were all still quoting rooms at $212 to $222 for those nights. Old listings will keep selling 'Elevation' for months; 3.8 from 1,116 Google reviews is the record it closes on.

Vail Resorts sells this as 'ski-in ski-out lodging in the heart of the Crested Butte Mountain Resort base area'. Google's blurb for the same building says a 4-minute walk from the ski lifts, the harvested amenity line advertises 'a free ski lift shuttle', and an independent lodging classifier files it under walking distance. A hotel standing on the snow does not run a lift shuttle.
What it actually has is a good one: slopeside ski valet, ski and bike storage thrown in, indoor and outdoor pools, a hot tub, sauna and a bar with a fire pit. Parking is extra and a resort fee covers the Wi-Fi.

Rare on this page: the operator draws the distinction for you. Traverse Hospitality titles the building's page 'Spacious Ski-In Condos' and puts the Silver Queen at about 100 yards, roughly three minutes. Ski-in is the accurate half of the phrase, and it is the half that is claimed.
Two traps ride along with the address. The harvest lists skicb.com as its official site, but Traverse manages and sells the building — check the actual booking channel before you quote a cancellation policy at anyone. And its 81224 postcode is the historic town's; the GPS is base village.

It calls itself 'the most centrally located lodging on the mountain' and stops there. One travel review sums the building up better than its own copy does: 'While it's not ski-in, ski-out it's pretty darn close.'
Free self-parking is the underrated reason to book it — that plus the shuttle at the door means a car week here costs nothing extra in a resort where the main lot runs $20 to $30 a day. Indoor-outdoor heated pool, hot tub, steam room, spa and a ski rental shop on site.

Two harvest entries were dropped before writing: the Google listing for the ski area itself and Vail's lodging office at 18 Snowmass Rd, neither of which is a bookable property.
