Ski-In Ski-Out Lodging in Kimberley
Kimberley has a real slopeside village and it is tiny — about 400 metres of Stemwinder Drive and Gerry Sorensen Way wrapped around one high-speed quad, a T-bar and a magic carpet. Everything on the front side skis back into it. The Bavarian town sits 1.9 km down the hill with a free bus, which is why the town-or-hill argument here has the opposite answer to the one at Fernie.
One property clears a strict two-direction test, and the hotel data records it as a no. Trickle Creek Lodge says on its own site that 'the high speed quad is just steps away from the doors of the hotel. Ski-in /ski-out service!', sits about 86 m from the bottom of Main, and is flagged ski_in_ski_out_claimed:false in the harvest we built this page from.
The flag in the data is close to inverted. The only Kimberley property Google records as claiming ski-in/ski-out is Northstar Mountain Village — and Expedia's own listing for a unit inside that complex gives an 8-minute walk to the Owl T-Bar and 9 minutes to the quad. Access there is unit-specific; ask which building before you book.
'Shuttle' means two opposite things at this resort. The free one is the municipal Peak to Platzl bus between the base, the on-mountain lodging, the Nordic Club and the Platzl. The paid one is the Northstar Group's private charter for guests of Mountain Spirit Resort and Northstar Mountain Village — CA$90 to CA$200 a trip, 48 hours' notice. A hundredfold price gap under one word.
This is the Fernie comparison in one line: same operator, opposite answer. At Fernie the town is 5 km from the hill with nothing skiable across the gap and a shuttle at CA$5 each way. At Kimberley the town is 1.9 km down and the bus is free — so a town bed here is a strategy, not a compromise.
The catch is the beginner run home. Everything funnels into Main, and PeakRankings writes that Kimberley's greens, 'most notably the Main run on the front side, are among the steepest greens we've ever seen', with pitches 'much more typical to blues at other ski resorts'. Send a genuine first-timer to the Owl T-Bar and the Owlette carpet in the village instead.
In our 20–23 January price check, Alpenglow Bed and Breakfast in town was cheapest at US$122 and Trickle Creek Lodge dearest at US$224. Every hotel rate on this page is in US dollars — Google returned USD for this Canadian resort — while lift tickets, night skiing and shuttle fares are CA$ as the operators publish them.
Lift access checked in both directions in August 2026 against each property's own website, thenorthstargroup.ca, skikimberley.com, Tourism Kimberley, BC Transit and PeakRankings. Rates are a snapshot for three nights, 20 to 23 January 2027, two adults, returned by Google in US dollars despite the resort being in British Columbia — read every hotel figure here as US$ and every ticket, night-ski or fare figure as CA$.
Kimberley Ski-In Ski-Out Lodging Compared, Both Directions
At a village 400 metres long, the interesting question is not whether a building is at the resort — three of these six are — but which direction it works in. You ski home to all three. You ski away from the door at one.
Out of the ski room and onto the base. The lodge's own site is blunt about it — 'The Kimberley Alpine Resort's high speed quad is just steps away from the doors of the hotel. Ski-in /ski-out service!' Google's harvested line is the cautious version of the same fact: 'a 2-minute walk from the North Star Express High Speed Quad lift'. Measured against OpenStreetMap's crowd-sourced piste geometry, the building sits about 41 m from the Owl T-Bar, about 48 m from the Owlette carpet and about 86 m from the bottom of Main and the quad — inside the lift base rather than near it

North Star Trail comes out about 96 m off, and the long Ridgeway cruise and Easy Way both join the same lower run-out into the base. Its operator claims you do — thenorthstargroup.ca says it is 'located at the base of Kimberley Alpine Resort… offering convenient ski-in/ski-out access' — but Google's harvested line is the careful version: 'a minutes' walk from the Owl T-Bar lift.' Off its own GPS it is 0.11 km from Trickle Creek Lodge, which in the OpenStreetMap piste geometry puts it about 113 m from the Owl T-Bar, about 149 m from the Owlette carpet and about 195 m from the bottom of Main and the North Star Express
Real, and the reviews say so in the guests' own words. One describes skiing 'right back to the ski locker door' at the end of the day. Main, North Star Trail and the Ridgeway run-out all deliver you to this end of the village

Against that, an Expedia listing for a unit inside the same complex gives an 8-MINUTE WALK to the Owl T-Bar and 9 MINUTES to the North Star Express. Genuinely good for many units. Ridgeway, the resort's longest run at 6.4 km, runs out within about 230 m of the complex, and one guest describes the daily pattern precisely — riding the T-bar back to the condo for lunch, 'no long drives to the hill, no line ups at lunch time, no tiring walks back to the car'

The correction that reorganises this page. Google's hotel harvest records ski_in_ski_out_claimed as false here and true at Northstar Mountain Village — and the evidence runs the other way at both. Trickle Creek's own site claims both directions in one sentence, third-party write-ups place it 'between the North Star Express and the learning area' with a ski room 'right at the exit to the slope', and the piste geometry agrees. The flag in the data is close to inverted; do not book off it.
Studio, one- and two-bedroom suites with kitchens, fireplaces and balconies, plus two hot tubs, a heated outdoor pool, a fitness room and the Buckhorn and Main restaurant on site. Free parking. Guests of the neighbouring Polaris Lodge check in here and use its underground parking, pool and gym, which is a useful thing to know if you are quoted a Polaris unit.
US$224 in our January price check — the dearest bed on this page, with Booking.com and Priceline both showing US$196 for the same nights. Google returned every hotel rate for this Canadian resort in US dollars. The score is 4.4 from 366 reviews and it is not a clean one: location runs 31 positive to zero negative, but service (78 to 13), room (22 to 12), bathroom (16 to 11) and the restaurant (1 to 5) all carry real negatives. This is a location verdict, not a quality one.

Read the shuttle wording on this operator's site carefully before you count on it. The Northstar Group's 'shuttle services' for guests of this building, Northstar Mountain Village and The Nest is a private charter at CA$90 to CA$200 a trip, 48 hours' notice, maximum ten people. It is not a ski shuttle and it is not the free municipal bus. Same word, two orders of magnitude apart.
No rate came back for our January dates, which is normal for a self-catered suite building. There is also an address trap on the operator's own site: it prints 400 Stemwinder Dr for this building and for Northstar Mountain Village, which Google and the harvest place about 430 m away on Gerry Sorensen Way. One operator, two buildings, one street number.

The most-reviewed slopeside property at Kimberley — 4.5 from 688 Google reviews, with nature at 55 positive to 1, family at 33 to 2 and location at 37 to 2 — and the one where the listing claim and the listing's own distances contradict each other inside the same booking flow.
Log-hewn two- and three-bedroom townhomes and lofts with stone fireplaces, full kitchens with washer/dryer, and private hot tubs and BBQs on the decks; a shared heated outdoor pool, hot tub, playground, fitness room and spa. Some units come with a private parking space, which at a complex this spread out is worth asking about.
Access here is unit-specific, not building-wide, and several 'properties' that surface in Kimberley searches are single condos inside this complex listed under their owners' sales titles. No rate came back in our January check. Do not book the complex-level claim — name the building and ask for the walking distance to the Owl T-Bar in writing.

Free continental breakfast, free parking, a common lounge with a fireplace, original artwork on the walls and rooms with minifridges and tea and coffee kit.
US$152 in our January price check — US$72 under Trickle Creek Lodge at the hill. That gap is the whole town-versus-hill argument at Kimberley, and unlike at sibling Fernie it does not get eaten by fares: the municipal bus is free and this hotel runs its own shuttle on top of it.
What you give up is the ski-home and the night-ski walk-back. Main is lit until 8:30 p.m. on its published evenings, and the difference between finishing a night run at your own front door and finishing it at a bus stop is the reason the hill beds cost more.

US$122 in our January price check, the cheapest rate returned for any Kimberley property, with a kitchen in the rooms, air conditioning, breakfast included and free parking. Two adults saving US$102 a night against Trickle Creek Lodge are saving more than a Kimberley day ticket, every day.
The honest counterweight: 64 reviews is a thin base to plan a week on, and a B&B with no advertised shuttle depends entirely on a municipally funded bus whose 2026/27 service has not yet been announced. Confirm the route and the timetable with the hosts before you count on skiing without a car.

The thinnest entry in the harvest: no official website, no phone number, no Google description and no rate for our January dates. It is here because it is a real Kimberley bed, not because we can vouch for it.
3.6 from 88 Google reviews is the lowest score on this page, and the topic split explains why — room 1 positive to 6 negative, sleep 3 to 6, bathroom 2 to 5, breakfast 4 to 5, service 23 to 13. Atmosphere, location and the bar are the parts guests like. There is a restaurant, a bar and table service on site.
The free Peak to Platzl bus is published as serving the resort base, the on-mountain accommodations, the Nordic Club and the downtown Platzl. Warren Avenue is none of those, and whether the route reaches it was not verified — assume a car until BC Transit's timetable says otherwise.
We have not stayed at these properties. Every claim was checked in August 2026 against the property's own website and its manager's pages, and where those contradicted the listing, the listing lost. Six further properties returned by the hotel harvest have been removed from this page altogether: St. Eugene Golf Resort, Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort, Days Inn, Elizabeth Lake Lodge, The Baker Hotel and Heritage Inn are all in Cranbrook, 21 to 26 km away in a straight line and a 25- to 35-minute winter drive from the lifts. They are not Kimberley beds and no distance-radius search should have put them here.

The whole village measures about 400 m: Mountain Spirit is 0.11 km from Trickle Creek and Northstar Mountain Village 0.43 km. One quad, one T-bar, one carpet, and Main finishing at the bottom of all of it. At this scale the difference between the verdicts is two minutes of walking — but two minutes carrying skis in ski boots, twice a day, is what people are paying the hill premium to avoid.

Sullivan Stone's rental copy is the right shape for a mid-mountain building: 'you can walk out of your door at Sullivan Stone Lodge and ski down to the main quad lift - the Northstar Express.' That is a direction of travel under gravity, and it says nothing about the return leg. Timberstone is named among the on-site properties by a third party with no wording read from its own management — a lead, not a verdict.
A pedestrian Bavarian-themed town centre with the restaurants, bars and shops the village does not have, a five-minute drive down the hill. Nobody skis home to it — but at 1.9 km with a free bus, nobody staying here is stranded either. Western Lodge sits 2.4 km further down the valley again, outside the published shuttle stop list.

Half the hotel harvest for 'Kimberley' came back from Cranbrook — six properties between 21.3 and 26.2 km straight-line from the ski base, every one with a Cranbrook street address. Several are good hotels and one, Elizabeth Lake Lodge, scores 4.8 from 554 reviews. None of them is a ski stay, and none has a card on this page.

Hours, frequency and the stop list are published by BC Transit rather than the city, and 2026/27 service has not been announced.

Free, unlike Fernie's
The Peak to Platzl winter shuttle is a free BC Transit service linking the resort base, the on-mountain accommodations, the Nordic Club and the downtown Platzl. Sibling resort Fernie, run by the same company, charges CA$5 each way through a mandatory app. That single difference is why a town bed at Kimberley costs you nothing to use and a town bed at Fernie costs a family about CA$120 a week.

The resort calls it 'the longest lit run in North America' and Tourism Kimberley repeats the claim; no independent ranking adjudicating it was found, so we attribute it rather than assert it. The commonly quoted figures are about a mile and 2,100 vertical feet.

About 400 cm — half Fernie's
The resort's own homepage says 'an average snowfall of 13 feet annually'; Wikipedia gives 400 cm, OnTheSnow 122 inches and PeakRankings 'about 150 inches', calling it significantly lower than competitors. Roughly 150 to 160 inches is the honest band. Fernie, 1 hour 40 minutes down the road under the same ownership, takes 875 to 885 cm. Kimberley's compensating strengths are sun, glades and short lift lines, not depth.
Condos: the Kimberley village the hotel data missed
Read the hotel harvest alone and you would conclude Kimberley has three beds on the snow. It has a village. The harvest header claims 20 properties found and its list holds 12 — and six of those twelve are in Cranbrook, a different city — so three slopeside entries were left to describe the whole resort. The buildings that went missing are exactly the condo stock that Google's hotel data never returns: Polaris Lodge, Sullivan Stone Lodge, Timberstone Lodge, Kimberley Ridge, Silver Birch Chalets and the Purcell condos.
Two of them are worth naming for opposite reasons. Sullivan Stone sits mid-mountain and its rental copy describes the real shape of a ski-out from up there — walk out of the door and ski down to the quad, with nothing said about the return leg. Kimberley Ridge sits at the base and its own marketing says 'within 2 minutes walking distance to the high speed quad', which is a walk, published by the party with every incentive to call it something else. Both are sold in the same breath as the true slopeside buildings.
One further caution before you book any of them. Many 'properties' that surface in Kimberley searches are single VRBO or Expedia units inside Northstar Mountain Village or Sullivan Stone, listed under their owners' sales titles — 'claim the best location… this true ski-in/ski-out 2BR/2BA unit' is a seller's sentence, not a building fact. A townhouse at the top of the T-bar and one at the bottom of the same complex are not the same product.

A 400-metre village, and a claim flag pointing the wrong way
Kimberley's base is small enough to walk across in five minutes and that is the whole story of this page. Stemwinder Drive and Gerry Sorensen Way wrap around the North Star Express, with the Owl T-Bar and the Owlette magic carpet beside it, and the harvest's own GPS puts the entire strip at about 400 metres end to end — Mountain Spirit Resort 0.11 km from Trickle Creek Lodge, Northstar Mountain Village 0.43 km. Every front-side run funnels into that strip. So the ski-back question, which is the hard one at most resorts, is nearly free here; the question that separates these buildings is the morning.
That is where the data fails. Of the six Kimberley properties Google's hotel harvest returned, exactly one carries the ski-in/ski-out claim flag: Northstar Mountain Village, the building at the far end of the village. An Expedia listing for a unit inside that same complex gives an 8-minute walk to the Owl T-Bar and 9 minutes to the North Star Express. Meanwhile Trickle Creek Lodge, whose own site says 'the high speed quad is just steps away from the doors of the hotel. Ski-in /ski-out service!' and which sits about 86 m from the bottom of Main, is flagged false — because Google's blurb happens to phrase it as 'a 2-minute walk from the North Star Express High Speed Quad lift'. The flag is close to inverted. Anyone filtering a booking site by it at this resort will get the wrong building.
Reconciling Northstar Mountain Village takes one more step, and it is the useful one: access there is unit-specific rather than building-wide. A Vrbo listing in the complex advertises itself as 'at top of T BAR'; others sit down-slope at the far end. A satisfied guest describes the pattern that a good unit produces — riding the T-bar back to the condo for lunch, 'no long drives to the hill, no line ups at lunch time, no tiring walks back to the car'. The Ridgeway run-out passes within about 230 m. So the ski-home half is genuine for many units and the morning is a walk of one to eight minutes depending which townhouse you are given. Ask for the building and the walking distance in writing, and ignore the complex-level claim entirely.
Mountain Spirit Resort sits between the two and its reviews argue with each other in exactly the way a 113-metre gap produces. One guest skis 'right back to the ski locker door'; another calls walking to the lift 'a pain… while carrying all your gear'. Both are true. You ski in, and in the morning you walk about two minutes with skis in hand. That is what walk means on this page, and at a village this compact it is a smaller penalty than it would be anywhere else — which is not the same as it not existing.
The Platzl, 1.9 km down the hill: the restaurants and bars the village does not have, on a free bus route.
Kimberley or Fernie: same operator, opposite answer
Resorts of the Canadian Rockies runs both of these mountains, and a reader choosing between them will not find the comparison anywhere else, so here it is plainly. At Fernie the historic town sits 5 km from the ski hill up Ski Hill Road with no lift, no run and no ski corridor across the gap, and the FernieStoke shuttle charges CA$5 each way through an app that is mandatory to buy and redeem tickets. Staying in town there is a real compromise that costs a couple about CA$90 to CA$120 over a six-day week — and Fernie's town rates are not cheaper than its hill rates, so the saving never appears.
At Kimberley the same two-part geography produces the opposite verdict. The Platzl is 1.9 km from the base — a five-minute drive down the hill — and the Peak to Platzl winter shuttle is a free BC Transit service running between the resort base, the on-mountain accommodations, the Nordic Club and the downtown shops. In 2025/26 it ran every day, statutory holidays included, from 27 December to the season's close on 6 April. And unlike at Fernie the money moves the right way: The Larix Hotel beside the Platzl was US$152 in our January check with a 4.8 from 248 reviews, against US$224 for Trickle Creek Lodge at the hill. Alpenglow Bed and Breakfast was US$122.
There is one word to be careful with before you conclude the shuttle problem is solved. The Northstar Group's own 'shuttle services' page, which covers guests of Mountain Spirit Resort, Northstar Mountain Village and The Nest, is not a ski shuttle at all — it is a private charter at CA$90 to CA$200 a trip to travel anywhere in Kimberley, with 48 hours' notice and a ten-person maximum. The free bus and the paid charter share a noun and nothing else. Two figures a hundredfold apart under the same word on lodging pages in the same village is the kind of thing that turns a budget upside down at the front desk.
The rest of the comparison is snow, and it goes the other way. Kimberley takes roughly 150 to 160 inches — about 400 cm — while Fernie takes 875 to 885 cm, more than double, an hour and forty minutes down the road. PeakRankings is blunt that Kimberley's total is significantly lower than its competitors'. What Kimberley trades for it is sunshine, a large amount of gladed terrain and lifts that, in the same reviewer's words, 'rarely see serious crowds'. If you hold an Epic Pass, the practical move is to string the two together — but the seven partner days are shared across all six RCR resorts, not seven at each.
Skiing home, night skiing, tickets and getting to Kimberley
The ski-home answer at Kimberley is unusually simple and comes with an unusually important asterisk. Simple, because the front side funnels into one run: Main, off the North Star Express, whose bottom sits about 86 m from Trickle Creek Lodge. North Star Trail finishes about 96 m out, Easy Way joins the same run-out, and Ridgeway — the resort's own longest run at 6.4 km, 'manicured goodness' in a third-party description — passes within about 230 m of Northstar Mountain Village before joining the base. Crowd-sourced OpenStreetMap data rates all of those easy, and Main's lower half easy with its upper half intermediate.
The asterisk is that Main is a green that skis like a blue, and this is a safety question rather than a quibble. PeakRankings writes that some of Kimberley's green trails, 'most notably the Main run on the front side, are among the steepest greens we've ever seen', with 'pitches much more typical to blues at other ski resorts', and adds that some of the easy trails here 'are just cat tracks'. No official rating exists to check that against: the resort's trail-map PDF is outlined vector art with no extractable text, its open-runs report is a JavaScript widget, and both powderhounds.com and snow-online.com returned HTTP 403 during research. So the honest instruction is to send a genuine first-timer to the Owl T-Bar and the Owlette carpet at the village, which is the terrain Mountain Spirit Resort is closest to, and to keep Main for the second or third day. The same reviewer confirms the structural good news — Kimberley has at least one true beginner-pitched trail down every lift.

On money and logistics, two things need correcting more than the price does. Kimberley is not a Vail resort — it is operated by Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, and the Epic relationship is a partnership giving up to seven days total across all six RCR mountains combined before the 50% discount kicks in. And the airport is genuinely close: Canadian Rockies International (YXC) at Cranbrook is 24.7 km and about 23 minutes from the hill, which is closer than almost any comparable Canadian ski pairing. Calgary, at about 420 km and four and a half hours, is the one with the flight choice.

Trickle Creek Lodge is the one address that works in both directions on the evidence. Its own site says 'the high speed quad is just steps away from the doors of the hotel. Ski-in /ski-out service!', third-party descriptions place it 'between the North Star Express and the learning area' with a ski room at the exit to the slope, and the piste geometry puts it about 86 m from the bottom of Main, about 41 m from the Owl T-Bar and about 48 m from the Owlette carpet. Polaris Lodge next door is described as 'a ski to your door condo' but never appears in hotel data, so it has no card or rate here.
Is Northstar Mountain Village really ski-in ski-out?
Not as a building. It is the only Kimberley property Google's data flags as claiming ski-in/ski-out, and an Expedia listing for a unit inside the same complex gives an 8-minute walk to the Owl T-Bar and 9 minutes to the North Star Express.
